
Gatbel Tongyik Bayak is a geology graduate and field specialist from Gambella, Ethiopia, with hands-on experience in water point maintenance, community engagement, and data collection for humanitarian and development programs. He combines technical knowledge with strong community interaction and field research skills.
Gatbel Tongyik Bayak holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Science from Samara University and has built a career that blends technical fieldwork, education, and humanitarian data collection.
He currently works as a Water, Energy, and Mine Works Expert in Jekow District, Gambella, where he maintains and disinfects handpumps, supports water user committees, and promotes proper sanitation practices around water points to ensure safe usage and sustainability.
Gatbel has also served as an Assistant Lecturer at Gambella University and Samara University, where he taught, examined, and supervised undergraduate students while contributing to ongoing professional development within the department.
In addition to his technical and academic roles, Gatbel has extensive experience as a data enumerator for humanitarian organizations including Plan International and HelpAge International. Using tools such as Kobo Toolbox, he has collected and managed data in refugee camps across Gambella, supporting monitoring activities for food distribution, non-food items, cash programs, and education assessments.
His work reflects a strong ability to operate in challenging field environments while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and close collaboration with communities.
