Tuk Gatluak Kier is a hydraulic engineer and water quality specialist dedicated to improving safe water access in underserved communities across East Africa. With expertise in water supply networks and treatment processes, he combines technical skill with a deep understanding of local water challenges.
Tuk Gatluak Kier is trained in civil and hydraulic engineering with a specialization in water supply systems and water quality management. Having grown up in a water-scarce community, he brings personal commitment and practical insight to his work, focusing on sustainable solutions for remote and underserved areas.
As a water quality specialist, Tuk has supported local water bureaus in interpreting test results and developing action plans to protect and improve water sources. He has conducted both laboratory and field-based water quality assessments, monitoring parameters such as pH, turbidity, chlorine levels, and E. coli, and preparing technical reports for stakeholders.
On the engineering side, Tuk has contributed to the design of resilient water distribution systems suited to harsh climates. He has modeled hydraulic flows to optimize gravity-fed systems in rural settings and continues to explore innovative treatment technologies, including solar-powered purification and membrane filtration, that can be adapted for low-resource environments.
Tuk previously served as a Water Quality Expert with the Itang Town Water Utility from March 2019 to July 2021, where he conducted risk assessments, prioritized testing efforts, and maintained water quality surveillance data. As part of the Needs 4 Water team, he applies his expertise to engineering solutions that expand reliable access to clean water.
