At Etege Menen Girls Boarding School, Project 12 evaluated WASH conditions in a unique boarding setting with on-site garden and livestock, serving 617 students and 73 staff since its founding in 1931.
Established in 1931, Etege Menen Girls Boarding Middle & Secondary School is a historic all-girls institution in Addis Ababa. It serves 617 students and 73 staff, all of whom live on-site. As part of the Ethiopia 2025 WASH Survey, Needs4Water conducted a comprehensive assessment of the school’s water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure, tailored to its unique residential context.
The school features a full cafeteria and kitchen, a food garden, and livestock including cows and sheep, all of which create additional WASH considerations around water use, food safety, and waste management. Project 12 gathered data through student interviews, facility inspections, and water quality testing, examining how these systems interact in a closed-campus environment.
